    Equity Silver mine site AMD collection and treatment

    Collection ponds near the lime treatment plant on the Equity Silver mine site. AMD from around the mine site is pumped up to these larger collection ponds and then sent to the treatment plant. The treatment plant is the large white building and this is where lime is used to neutralize the acidic drainage. This means that when the AMD arrives at the plant its pH (level of acidity) is about 2. The lime, which is very basic (opposite of acidic) brings the pH level up to about 7, like the pH of water. 2008
