Environmental Assessment of the Proposed Morrison Copper-Gold Project
Invitation to Comment and Open Houses
Pacific Booker Minerals (‘Proponent’) is proposing to develop the Morrison Copper-Gold Project (“Project”), a copper/gold mineral deposit. The proposed mine site is 35 km north of the Village of Granisle east of Morrison Lake. The Project would process 30,000 tonnes per day, or approximately 11 million tonnes of ore per year. The proposed Project is subject to review under British Columbia’s Environmental Assessment Act and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
The Proponent must obtain an environmental assessment certificate before any work can be undertaken on the Project. However, prior to submission of a certificate application (‘Application’) by the Proponent, the Environmental Assessment Office of British Columbia (‘EAO’) must first approve Terms of Reference (‘TOR’).
The TOR will specify studies to be conducted and detailed information to be provided by the Proponent in its Application. The EAO has received draft TOR from the Proponent and invites the public’s comments on it. The intention of seeking public comments at this stage is to ensure that all potential effects – environmental, economic, social, heritage and health – that might result from the Project are addressed through the TOR.
To provide information about the TOR, and to receive comments from the public, the EAO invites the public to attend the following Open Houses to be held from 5pm to 8pm (presentations begin at 7pm):
November 3, 2008
Royal Canadian Legion
4380 11th St., Houston BC
November 4, 2008
Granisle Seniors Centre
19 Chapman St., Granisle BC
November 5, 2008
College of New Caledonia
545 Highway 16, Burns Lake BC
After taking public comments into account, the EAO will finalize the TOR and issue them to the Proponent. There are 30 days for the submission of comments. The comment period will begin on October 30, 2008 and end at midnight on November 29, 2008. All comments received during this time will be considered. There will be further Open Houses and a second comment period during the Application review stage when the public will also be able to provide comments to the EAO on the proposed Project.
